Keeping your home address off your Florida LLC's public record

Sunbiz publishes what you file. If your home is your LLC's principal office, registered office or manager address, anyone can see it. Here's which addresses can be swapped, for what, and how.

How to replace a home address

  1. Registered agent / office: form INHS18 ($25), or the annual or amended annual report. See change your registered agent.
  2. Principal, mailing and manager addresses: Sunbiz's "Update Your Information" forms, the annual report (Jan 1 – May 1, $138.75), or an amended annual report ($50).
  3. Expect older filings to stay. Sunbiz posts images of filed documents. Updating changes your current record going forward, but earlier filings may still show the old address.

Public records exemption (limited)

Florida's exemption covers only listed categories under s. 119.071, F.S. These include law enforcement and correctional personnel, judges and magistrates, prosecutors, public defenders, certain Department of Juvenile Justice and financial-investigation personnel, U.S. attorneys and judges, and victims of specified crimes (with official verification; 5-year exemption). The request must be notarized, and you must give a replacement address: a Florida street address for a registered agent, or a street address for a principal office. Send it to the Division's public records email listed on the exemption page. Crime victims can also ask the Attorney General's Office about the separate Address Confidentiality Program.

Using a commercial address

A commercial registered agent replaces the registered-office address only. Northwest lists registered agent service at $125/year on its site. Northwest registered agent Northwest also sells a virtual office address. Check that it meets Sunbiz's street-address rule for a principal office before you use it there. Northwest virtual office

FAQ

Can I use my home address for my LLC in Florida?

Yes, but Sunbiz says the information you submit becomes public record. Your home address will be visible on the LLC's Sunbiz record if you use it as the principal office, as the registered office (if you're your own agent), or as a manager's address.

Can I use a P.O. box on Sunbiz?

For the mailing address, yes. The principal office must be a street address (it doesn't have to be in Florida), and the registered office must be a Florida street address. Sunbiz's LLC annual report help says manager or managing-member addresses may be a P.O. box.

How do I remove my address from Sunbiz?

Replace it with a different address: file an annual report (Jan 1 – May 1), an amended annual report ($50), or the online update forms; for the registered agent, file form INHS18 ($25). Documents already filed remain part of the record.

Who can get a Florida public records exemption for their address?

Only people in specific categories listed on the Department of State's Public Records Exemption Request, such as law enforcement personnel, judges, prosecutors, public defenders and certain crime victims. The request must be notarized, and you must give a replacement address.

Does a registered agent hide my address?

It replaces the registered office address with the agent's Florida address. It does not change the principal office or manager addresses. Those need their own non-home addresses if you want your home off the record.
